We build practical skills into our modules so that students can approach their chosen profession with confidence.Teaching is based on the workshop model and visits from writers, editors and agents provide an important component of campus study. All students give a reading from work in progress at our annual MA Showcase - previous events have been held in partnership with Lancaster Lit Fest and the Dukes theatre. Our programme offers you a rigorous and inspiring study of Literature while Creative Writing workshops, lectures and readings help you develop your own writing. In addition to the core English Literature modules, your degree includes an Introduction to Creative Writing in the first year, an intermediary workshop in the second year, and an advanced workshop in the final year.In your final term of each year, you will study both collaboratively and independently to complete a portfolio to be submitted for assessment. The information on this site relates primarily to 2020/21 entry to the University and every effort has been taken to ensure the information is correct at the time of publication. You can also choose special units, where one of our tutors gives you deeper guidance in their own specialism, be it writing for the stage, long fiction or poetry. All Creative Writing modules are taught by published authors, who bring real-world experience to their teaching. The campus-based courses are led by an experienced team of professional writers who have been widely published and who have won many literary awards: Jenn Ashworth, Paul Farley, George Green, Tajinder Hayer, Zoe Lambert, Graham Mort, Eoghan Walls and (as Visiting Distinguished Professors) Paul Muldoon and Benoit Peeters. Our distance learning tutors are experienced and award-winning authors, Sarah Corbett, Conor O’Callaghan, Jane Draycott, Sara Maitland, Brian Mc Cabe, Tom Pow and Michelene Wandor.
