The course is divided into the following areas: Assessment All units are assessed through written examination: ASD units (1 hour 30 minutes), A2 units (1 hour 45 minutes).

The course looks at the beneficial role chemistry plays in society for example the manufacture of polymers such as polyester and nylon and pharmaceutical products like aspirin.Once solid dissolved, weigh the watch glass and filter paper, use the filter paper to carry out suction filtration, place crystals on watch glass, weigh the dried crystal and calculate the weight of the aspirin.Then, determine the melting point of aspirin using necessary apparatus.Requirement/Skills for entry to the course Chemistry component of Core Science GCSE – B or above Chemistry component of Additional Science GCSE – B or above GCSE Maths – B or above.To succeed at A level Chemistry you must be conscientious, have excellent attendance and be prepared to try your best.Students must be prepared to apply the knowledge, understanding and skills specified in a range of theoretical, practical, industrial and environmental context.Practical work is an intrinsic part of this specification.For preparation of Aspirin, acetic anhydride is added to the measured amount of salicylic acid.Sulphuric acid is added and heated for a short period to complete reaction.The emphasis of this course is on developing understanding and applying knowledge to explain modern applications of chemistry.The specification is divided into chemical topics, each containing different key concepts of chemistry.
